Narrative content and imagery return to art, in part as a reaction to the previous decades of abstraction and Minimalism.

The use of highly polished surfaces, brilliant color, and high-tech materials, similar to those found on surfboards and automobiles.

Performance Art
The boundaries between art and life, and the artmaker and art viewer, are removed. Life experience, the role of chance, and intuitive impulse are central.
